Home Heat Pump Guide (“we”, “us”, “our”) runs the website homeheatpumpguide.co.uk and is the controller of the personal data collected through it.

Data you give us

• Quote form: your name, email address, phone number and postcode; your property type, current heating, insulation, how soon you plan to install, and (if you answer) whether you own the home.
• A record of your consent: which version of the consent wording you agreed to, and the date and time.
• Contact form: your name, email address and message.

Data collected automatically

• Analytics (unless you turn it off): pages viewed, how you arrived, device and browser type, and approximate location derived from your IP address, linked to an analytics identifier stored in a cookie. This is pseudonymous data, not anonymous data.
• How you reached the form: when you submit the quote form we also record the first page you visited, the website you came from (its name only, not the full address), an anonymous random session ID and any campaign tags in the link. This is held in your browser tab only until you submit or close the tab.
• Saved answers (on your device only): your calculator and form answers and the pages you viewed are saved in your browser's local storage for up to 30 days, so we can pre-fill forms. They are not sent to us unless you submit the quote form.

• Passing your quote request to an installer, and contact about it from us and the installer: consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), given by ticking the box. You can withdraw it at any time (see section 5).
• Keeping a record of your consent: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) in being able to show we acted lawfully.
• Replying to contact-form messages: legitimate interests in answering the questions people send us.
• Analytics: legitimate interests in understanding which pages help people so we can improve the site. For the analytics cookies themselves we rely on the statistical-purposes exception in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (Schedule A1, paragraph 5), which requires us to give you a simple way to object. You can do that in section 6.

Installers: when you request a quote we send your name, contact details, postcode and answers to an MCS-certified installer covering your area, so they can contact you about a quote. The installer then uses your details under its own privacy notice. Installers may pay us for the introduction. You can ask us at any time which installer received your details, and ask us to tell them you have withdrawn your consent.

Service providers who process data on our behalf to run the site:

• Vercel Inc. hosts the website and runs the server code that receives form submissions.
• Formspree delivers quote-form and contact-form submissions to our email inbox.
• Our email provider, which stores the emails Formspree sends us.
• Google provides Google Analytics.
• Ahrefs provides Ahrefs Web Analytics.

Some of these providers are based in the USA, so your data may be processed there. Where data leaves the UK we rely on the safeguards in each provider's data processing terms. You can ask us for details.

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) you have the right to:

• get a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• have it corrected
• have it deleted
• restrict how we use it
• object to our use of it where we rely on legitimate interests (including analytics)
• receive it in a portable format
• withdraw your consent at any time. This doesn't affect anything we did before you withdrew.

You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Google Analytics counts visits and shows us which pages are useful. It sets cookies whose names start with _ga, which last up to 2 years, and processes your IP address to estimate your general location. We use it only to understand and improve this site.

Ahrefs Web Analytics counts page views. Ahrefs describes it as cookie-free. We have not independently verified whether it stores anything on your device, so it is covered by the same off switch.

Saved answers are kept in your browser's local storage for up to 30 days so you don't have to retype them. If you turn analytics off, we also store that choice on your device so we can honour it.

We do not use advertising or social media tracking pixels on this site.

Turn off analytics

Turning analytics off stops Google Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics from loading on this device from now on. The choice is saved in your browser, so it applies to this browser only.

• Quote-form enquiries and the consent record: deleted 12 months after you submit them, or sooner if you ask.
• Contact-form messages: deleted 12 months after our last reply, or sooner if you ask.
• Hosting server logs: kept only for the limited period set by our hosting provider.
• Analytics: data linked to an analytics identifier is kept for no more than 14 months. Aggregated reports that do not identify anyone may be kept longer.
• Saved answers on your device: up to 30 days after your last visit, or until you clear them.

• Everything sent to and from this website is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
• Access to enquiries is limited to the people who run the site.
• We do not send your contact details to Google Analytics or Ahrefs.

Our services are not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have collected data from a child, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We will update this policy when what we do with your data changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
