About Home Heat Pump Guide

Many heat pump websites are run by installers or manufacturers with an interest in selling you a heat pump. We wanted a site that sets out the costs, grants and trade-offs plainly, using published figures, so you can judge for yourself.

We believe every homeowner deserves clear, honest, and complete information about heat pumps — including when a heat pump is not the right choice. That's something you'll rarely hear from a company trying to sell you one.

We are not heating engineers, plumbers or salespeople. Our guides explain published figures and official guidance in plain English. For advice on your specific home you need a survey by a qualified, MCS-certified installer.

Independence is the foundation of everything we do. Here's what that means in practice:

• We are not installers. We don't install heat pumps, sell equipment, or employ tradespeople. We have no financial incentive to tell you a heat pump is right for your home if it isn't.
• Our editorial content is independent. No installer, manufacturer, or trade body pays for or influences our content. If we say a heat pump costs £10,000, that's because our data shows it does — not because someone paid us to say it.
• We show our working. Our methodology page sets out the data sources and assumptions behind our cost figures and calculators, so you can check our numbers yourself.
• We tell you when a heat pump isn't right. Our guides clearly explain the situations where a heat pump may not be the best choice. An installer will rarely tell you this.

When you use our quote form, we pass your request to an MCS-certified installer covering your area, who contacts you about a quote. Installers may pay us for that introduction. You pay us nothing and there is no obligation to go ahead.

Installers have no say in what we write. Our guides, calculator and suitability checker are free to use without ever requesting a quote.

Our figures come from public sources:

• Ofgem — energy price cap unit rates and standing charges, checked each quarterly cap period
• DESNZ — Boiler Upgrade Scheme statistics and policy
• MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) — installer certification and installation standards
• GOV.UK — Boiler Upgrade Scheme eligibility and grant amounts

Each figure in our data records its source, the date we last checked it, and when its next check is due.
